Este documento ofrece un análisis comparado de las modalidades de participación electoral de personas extranjeras que no cuentan con ciudadanía en América Latina, la Unión Europea y países miembros de la OCDE.

This case study examines the impact of extensive flooding and landslides on the conduct of local elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2024. It evaluates the response of EMBs in the complex administrative environment of the country, including their preparedness and capacity to manage a potential crisis just two days before polling.

The electoral management body (EMB) follows a governmental model, with the permanent state-level Election Commission presided over by the minister of the interior.

Under the LEGITIMULT project, International IDEA hosted the ‘Lessons from Covid-19 Journalism in a Post-Pandemic Future’ media workshop at its headquarters in Stockholm. The workshop focused on key lessons and challenges from the pandemic and explored strategies for ethical, effective, and impactful reporting during crises. LEGITIMULT assesses the impact of the measures taken during the Covid-19 crisis by various international, national and subnational governments on multilevel institutions and intergovernmental relations. The insights from the media workshop will contribute to LEGITIMULT’s research, which seeks to develop a model for legitimate crisis governance.

On 3-4 May 2025, the African Union Political Affairs, Peace and Security Department (AUPAPS) convened a roundtable in Nairobi to explore the role of media in complement democratization efforts in Africa. The roundtable was organised in collaboration with International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) and Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa (EISA). The event doubled as a commemoration of World Press Freedom Day. The event gathered journalists, media institutions, civil society actors, experts from EISA and AU agencies to strengthen the integration of democratic values into African societies, especially among youth.

It is the most populated and largest region in Panama, but it also has the highest poverty levels—87.2 percent, compared to the national average of 21.7 percent. Forced to seek employment opportunities outside their communities, migration becomes a common option.

Political finance plays a crucial role in democracy by enabling political parties and candidates to engage with voters and participate in elections. However, if left unchecked, it can undermine democratic integrity, foster corruption and allow undue influence.
