Chișinău, 2–3 April 2025 – As Ukraine looks ahead to organizing post-war elections, ensuring institutional resilience is more important than ever. In response to the Central Election Commission’s (CEC) strategic priority to institutionalize electoral risk and crisis management, International IDEA facilitated a two-day high-level workshop in Chișinău, Moldova.

On 4 April 2025, International IDEA facilitated a high-level working meeting in Chișinău between the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Ukraine and the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Moldova. The exchange was part of International IDEA’s continued support to electoral institutions in Eastern Europe, fostering dialogue, peer learning, and democratic resilience in times of significant regional challenges.

From April 9 –12, 2025, Johannesburg, South Africa, hosted a critical reflection and technical meeting focusing on the 2024 elections and the emerging trends in electoral processes in Africa. Organized by the African Union Political Affairs Peace and Security (AUC PAPS) in collaboration with the RECs and Africa and West Asia Electoral Process Programme of International IDEA, the event convened key electoral stakeholders to assess the state of elections across the continent and prepare for upcoming electoral cycles.

Chișinău, 1–3 April 2025 – Last week, the Central Election Commissions (CECs) of Moldova and Ukraine took important steps in advancing electoral risk management, resilience building, and crisis management processes as part of a broader effort to protect electoral integrity. In this regard, International IDEA facilitated two high-level workshops in Chișinău, supporting strategic discussions and capacity development.

Since the effective collapse of central authority in Somalia in 1991, local systems have provided crucial platforms for governance. Local systems of governance continue to be relevant alongside efforts to rebuild the Somali state, such as attempts to revive formal pre-1991 local government institutions. 

International IDEA and the office of Congressman Roberto Archibold organized the workshop “Exchange of knowledge on governance and implementation of Law 10” with the objective of discussing the strengthening of governance, as well as the improvement of citizen participation, including that of women, in the Ngäbe Buglé comarca.

On 25 March 2025, President Donald Trump signed the Executive Order ‘Preserving and Protecting the Integrity of American Elections’. The order outlines sweeping reforms that aim to protect US elections from fraud, foreign interference and systemic error.
