IDEA Internacional expresa su profunda preocupación por las recientes elecciones en Camerún, Costa de Marfil y Tanzania, que han suscitado serias dudas sobre la integridad electoral, los derechos humanos y la estabilidad regional. En los tres países, los gobernantes en funciones se afianzaron en el poder mediante tácticas autocráticas, como el encarcelamiento, la inhabilitación y la desaparición forzada de opositores, así como la violenta represión estatal contra las protestas públicas durante las elecciones.

International IDEA expresses deep concern over recent elections in Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire and Tanzania that have raised serious questions about electoral integrity, human rights and regional stability. In all three countries, incumbents entrenched themselves in power through autocratic tactics including the imprisonment, disqualification and forced disappearances of opponents, as well as violent state responses to public protests during the elections.  

Effective governance of mineral resources is vital to Africa’s sustainable development, with the potential to transform resource wealth into broad-based economic growth. With the right governance frameworks, the continent’s vast mineral endowments can benefit local communities, national economies and global markets. However, many African countries face ongoing challenges related to governance, transparency and the equitable distribution of resource revenues.

Las barreras informales y formales a la toma de decisiones políticas de las mujeres todavía existen, seis años antes de la expiración de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS). Entre los factores informales que todavía presenciamos, la cultura, la tradición y la religión se están utilizando para diluir la participación significativa de las mujeres en la toma de decisiones políticas. Este Día de la Mujer debería ser un momento para reflexionar sobre cómo las mujeres influyeron en algunas decisiones políticas importantes.

The informal and formal barriers to women’s political decision-making still exist, six years before the expiration of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Amongst the informal factors we still witness, culture, tradition and religion are being used to water down women’s agency in meaningful participation in political decision-making. This Women’s Day should be a time to reflect on how women influenced some milestone political decisions.
