International IDEA Haiti programme and the GP-Political Parties Participation and Representation Programme are implementing the Strategic Planning Tool for political parties in Haiti.

The visit of LAC Regional Director Daniel Zovatto will allow International IDEA Paraguay Programme to be officially launched. Regional Director Zovatto and Head of Paraguay Programme González-Prieto will be meeting with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Union as donor of the Programme, and the Electoral Tribunal of Paraguay as main counterpart and direct beneficiary of the Programme.

International IDEA Paraguay Head of Programme, Lourdes González-Prieto, will attend the International Seminar on Electoral Systems in Brasilia, where alternatives to reform the Brazilian electoral systems will be discussed.

Relevant international experiences will be analyzed, including Belgium, France, Germany, Mexico, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and the United States.

On Tuesday, November 22, the colloquium on financing political parties and election campaigns, organized by the Senate of Uruguay, the Electoral Court, and International IDEA, was held in the Edificio Artigas, attached to the Legislative Palace in Montevideo, Uruguay.

After hosting five workshops across five countries with Electoral Management Bodies and Civil Society Organizations on the use of AI in elections, what has International IDEA learned from these exchanges?

International IDEA, with support from the European Union, convened media experts from Guyana in Panama to analyse the handling of information before, during, and after the general and regional elections held on September 1st. The workshop aimed to reinforce information integrity and promote good journalistic practices in electoral contexts, at a time when disinformation and polarization pose growing challenges to democracy.

This case study examines the preservation of election results in Guatemala through the lens of the political crisis that occurred in that country in the second half of 2023. Despite Guatemala’s democratic deficiencies, electoral results had not previously been threatened there in the 40 years since the democratic opening in 1983. 

Ahead of COP30, to take place in Belém, Brazil, in November 2025, the gap between urgently needed climate action and global governance responses remains. Citizen deliberation has emerged as a leading example of democratic governance innovations to address this gap by raising the ambition and legitimacy of climate policy.
