International IDEA has provided technical assistance for the preparation of the new Peruvian electoral schedule to be applied in the elections this year. The aim was to streamline terms and avoid overlaps in the phases of the electoral cycle.

The Fourth International Forum of Santo Domingo under the theme "The state of democracy in Latin America: 40 years since the third wave of democracy", organized by the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (Funglode for its Spanish acronym), together with International IDEA, took place from 16-18 January 2018 in Santo Domingo, the capital city of Dominican Republic.

On 21 November, International IDEA Secretary-General Yves Leterme travelled to Lima, Peru, to attend the Annual Democracy Forum 2017 (ADF).

On 12 December, International IDEA and the University of the Andes’ Law School convened a panel of experts in Bogota, Colombia, to discuss the report, Political Finance and the Participation of Women in Colombia: A Situation Analysis.

On 6 December, Justice José Luis Vargas Valdez of the Mexican Federal Electoral Tribunal visited the headquarters of International IDEA in Stockholm, Sweden.

Gender equality and the political empowerment of women are key elements for the consolidation of sustainable democracies worldwide.

Global and regional organizations play an important role in the development of legal and policy frameworks, as well as in the design of effective action plans to better support the advancement of the gender equality agenda at the global, regional and national levels.

The ninth edition of the Ibero-American Conference on Electoral Justice was held in San Miguel de Allende in Mexico from November 8 to 9 2017 with the theme "New trends to ensure fairness in the electoral contest in Ibero-America".

For the first time in Paraguay’s history, International IDEA, collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Paraguay, organized four BRIDGE (Building Resources in Democracy, Governance and Elections) workshops as part of the European Union’s Promotion of Democracy through Capacity Development of the National Electoral Management Body

An investigation conducted by International IDEA , with support from the Embassy of Sweden, has had a notorious impact on the mass media of the Department of Santa Cruz, which have devoted several pages, editorials and numerous notes and comments on radio stations and TV channels. And is because the study contains findings and very relevant analysis.

On the auspices of the 75th anniversary since the establishment of democracy in Costa Rica, International IDEA was honored with the "Cátedra a la Democracia Award". The award was received by the Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, Dr Daniel Zovatto, who also gave the keynote address entitled "The state of democracy in Latin America: current situation and challenges".

The forum "Private financing of politics in Guatemala and its effects on democracy" was held in Guatemala City, organized by the International Commission against Impunity in Guatemala (CICIG). The forum featured a distinguished panel of experts headed by the Commissioner Iván Velásquez, the president of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) of Guatemala, María Eugenia Mijangos and the Director for Latin America and the Caribbean of International IDEA, Daniel Zovatto.
