International IDEA views the Summit for Democracy as a strategic opportunity to place democracy at the front and center of the global agenda. The war in Ukraine underscores, even more, the need for democracies to stand united in the face of authoritarian threats. International IDEA has therefore developed a strategic engagement programme around the Summits for Democracy in 2021 and 2023 and the Year of Action 2022.

Electoral management bodies (EMBs) are responsible for ensuring a level playing field for political representation and meaningful participation across the entire electoral cycle. Yet, International IDEA data shows that only 22% of EMBs themselves are chaired by women.

El 1 de diciembre de 2021, el Consejo de Estados Miembros de IDEA Internacional (presidido por Australia) aprobó por unanimidad la solicitud de membresía de la República de Estonia. Estonia se une a la organización como su 34º Estado miembro.

On 1 December 2021, International IDEA’s Council of Member States (chaired by Australia) unanimously approved the membership request from the Republic of Estonia. Estonia joins the organization as its 34th Member State.
