On 26 November, International IDEA, the Republic of Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Embassy of Switzerland to Indonesia will convene a round table discussion on the political rights of overseas citizens.

International IDEA will host a mini-workshop entitled “Reimagining Democracy in Asia: Addressing the Threat of Backsliding” on the sidelines of the International Civil Society Week in Bangkok, Thailand. The workshop will take place on 3 November 2025.

International IDEA will launch the report Let the Courts Decide? The Potential and Limitations of Climate Litigation from a Democracy Perspective as part of CIVICUS International Society Week 2025, in Bangkok, Thailand. The launch will take place on 1st November at 15:30 local time.

International IDEA in partnership with the Government of Indonesia c.q. the Ministry of State Secretariat and the Non-Aligned Movement Centre for South-South Technical Cooperation, will host the International Workshop on Electoral Efficiency and Sustainability. It will take place in Bandung, Indonesia from 21 to 24 October 2025. 

Can democracy keep pace with a world on the move? 

International IDEA will conduct a session on Youth Democracy Academy, a learning program that provides knowledge and skills for young people to be more engaged in political processes, at the 2nd General Assembly and 3rd Asia Indigenous Youth Conference hosted by the Asia Indigenous Youth Platform (AIYP).

Bangladesh is at a crucial juncture with significant reforms being proposed to its constitution. This period presents a challenge and an opportunity for Bangladesh’s democratic transition.

Electoral processes are conducted in increasingly challenging environments. The Stockholm Conference on Electoral Integrity will serve as an opportunity for policy dialogue between electoral management bodies (EMBs) and electoral stakeholders, emphasising EMB leadership and independence in complex regulatory questions.  

In collaboration with the Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact Foundation (AIPP), International IDEA’s Asia and the Pacific programme will host a workshop on Constitutional Assessment Tools for Indigenous Inclusion, Rights and Environmental Protection. The event will take place from Monday the 26^th of May to Tuesday the 27^th of May in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

International IDEA’s Asia and the Pacific program and the Applied Democracy Lab (ADL) at the University of Dhaka will implement the Youth Democracy Academy to selected Dhaka-based students through online learning and dialogues. This joint activity aims to enhance knowledge about democracy and provide space for students to discuss their country’s current political landscape.
