On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2022, the Women in Political Participation (WPP) project invites you to the webinar Situation Analysis on Women's Political Participation in Africa: #Breakthebias towards women in political decision making.

The International IDEA Tunis Office is will hold its second online 'Moot Court Competition on Article 49 of the Tunisian Constitution and Proportionality', under the project “Supporting the Application of Article 49 and Proportionality in Tunisia” funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.

International IDEA is convening a global multistakeholder coalition for democracy in a virtual forum to be held for 24 hours on 7 December 2021. The purpose of the Global Democracy Coalition Forum is to facilitate a global conversation on democracy, as inputs to the Summit for Democracy, convened by the United States Government and to be held on 9 and 10 December 2021.

Join us for a discussion on constitutional innovations regarding institutions designed to advance freedom of expression and media freedom (media or communication commissions) and their role in addressing contemporary challenges of dis/misinformation and advancing fair, balanced, and diversified media coverage, particularly in publicly owned or state-subsidized media. 

International IDEA’s “The Global State of Democracy: Building resilience in a pandemic era” report aims to influence the global debate and analyses current trends and challenges to democracy, exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic. It offers specific policy recommendations to spark new and innovative thinking for policymakers, governments and civil society organizations supporting democracy. 

As the Covid-19 pandemic continues to take a devastating toll on public health, economies, and livelihoods globally since December 2019, it also affects the maintenance and preservation of democracy. Africa as a continent has also been severely affected. The need to contain the spreading of the pandemic has led to the countries adopting various forms emergency measures depending on their context.

Stockholm International Democracy Talks will take place in a digital format on 28-29 October. It is arranged as part of Sweden’s Drive for Democracy, launched in 2019 in an effort to provide a counter-narrative to the democratic backsliding we see in many parts of the world.

The 2021 #Tech4Rights Expo will be held virtually from 26 October to 29 October 2021. Join academics, civil society, human rights defenders, state and private sector representatives, artists and many more in exploring how technology influences human rights.

In the run-up to the COP26 Summit in Glasgow, International IDEA is hosting a webinar to launch its discussion paper on Democracy and the Challenges of Climate Change to zoom in on what innovations, policies and actions are available to democracies to successfully tackle climate change.

The “Fact as Fiction” conference will offer an opportunity for participants and the public to discuss the latest developments in detecting and fighting information disorders and learn more about the presence of this phenomenon in North Africa. The Conference will offer insights on disinformation activities and their consequences.

Professional electoral administrators are key to deliver well-organized, credible and genuine elections. The electoral management bodies (EMBs) perform best when their leadership has thorough understanding of the mechanics, principles and good practices in electoral administration.

Join us for Project Article 49's final conference, held on 30 and 31 May 2021,  to discuss the topic: Working Towards a New Era in the Protection of Fundamental Rights in Tunisia.

International IDEA will co-organize two sessions during the seventh edition of Stockholm Internet Forum (SIF21), hosted by The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) on 10-12 May 2021.

The sixty-fifth session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) will take place from 15 to 26 March 2021. The priority theme of the session is 'Women's full and effective participation and decision-making in public life, as well as the elimination of violence, for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls'.

This concept note outlines the need for the Women in Political Participation in Africa Barometer validation ahead of the launch of the Barometer on 18 March 2021. The validation will facilitate the finalisation of the Barometer publication with inputs from across Africa and references to key case studies. The reviewers will present a comprehensive report on preliminary findings of the research.

The International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance, Tunis office, is organizing for the first time a 'Moot Court Competition around Article 49 of the Tunisian Constitution', under the project ’Working for a new era in protection of fundamental rights in Tunisia‘.

International IDEA has, together with six of its partners, formed a Gender consortium on "Enhancing the Participation of Women in Political Participation in Africa".
